Lower’s Family Foods has been bringing some of the finest meat and deli products to the market since 1927.

The Lower Family Mission

We handcraft a full range of premium meat products from beef, pork, and poultry in our Double L Ranch Deli Craft, Smoke Craft, Carver’s Craft, and Nature’s Craft labels. We are proud to be a Certified Angus Beef Brand® Processor.

We are a certified gluten-free facility and free of the common eight allergens. We maintain separate raw and cooked processing facilities for food safety. All items are reduced or low sodium. Most of our open roasted items are trimmed to qualify as 95-99% fat-free. Our roast beef items are binder-free. All smoked pastrami and BBQ items are naturally hardwood smoked, with no artificial smoke added. We open oven roast all our main line products for old-fashioned flavor and appearance.

Our slicing facility operates separate rooms for each slicing line, which are refrigerated via individual positive-pressure air-handling units for more sterile conditions.

Our Story

Meat processing has been an important industry in Smithfield since the 1920s. The business evolved from small slaughtering operations to a fully developed meat processing facility.

Russel Lower began his slaughtering business around 1929 during the Great Depression. As demand grew, he expanded his operations, leading to what is now Lower Foods. Over generations, the business evolved, transitioning from custom slaughtering to a fully developed meat processing company.

By 1956, Larry and Marilyn Lower expanded the business into Lower Packing Co., specializing in custom meat services, including sausage, jerky, roast beef, and smoked turkey for retail sale. The family business continued to grow, becoming Lower Foods, Inc., and moved to Richmond, Utah.

Today, Lower Foods continues as a family enterprise with Alan Lower and his sons, Chad and Lee, marking the fourth generation in the company’s progression.
